There appear to be several bugs: 1. VarBstrCmp was passing -1 to CompareStringW, meaning it expected the BSTRs to be NULL-terminated. This is wrong, and the previous patch addressed that. 2. VarBstrCat was assuming its arguments were NULL-terminated. This is also wrong, and this patch addresses that. 3. CompareStringW only compares until a NULL.
