I've ALREADY posted a WINDEBUG trace that shows Wine 0.9.46 crashing when it dereferences a NULL pointer. And a simple comparison with the traces that I previously posted against earlier versions of Wine should be enough to convince anyone *willing to look* that this is the same bug. The bug may be related to display issues, as the last fixmes are d3d. On the other hand, the game's own error log lists not finding data. The game gives an error of "Medieval 2: Total War encountered an unspecified error and will now exit" Sometimes, rarely, it seems not to crash at this point, but only perhaps 1% of the time. Many hours fiddling settings and reinstalling clean versions and such could not duplicate the rare success. Some people on appdb have suggested earlier version of wine didn't have this problem (though they crash for other reasons) the 2007.10.7 git wine has the same problem. versions 1.0 and 1.3 of M2TW have the same problem. the problem occurs full screen and in emulated desktops. it's unfortunately not testable with the free demo of m2tw, because the demo doesn't have the campaign. I can't test it though because I don't have a card capable of running it in the display depth. We probably should not return 15bpp directly, but 16.
