The server doesn't have to be dedicated either. Just joining any local network game will fail when the percentage gets to 97% to 99%. Using wine is pretty much the only solution to play these games as the "fall through the floor" bug on the Linux version makes them unplayable on Linux IMHO. And yes, that fixes the bug because the resize is now done by the window manager instead of being done internally in Wine. The problem with resizing inside Wine is that we need to grab the X server, and depending on what the app does during the resize this is quite likely to deadlock.
