For instance I've been playing BF1942 with openbox as my window manager in a gnome session. With this configuration I do not see the gnome panel. However, if I switch to compiz instead of openbox then I do see the gnome panel on top of BF1942. Red Alert uses palette fading for a lot of effects and we didn't support this. For instance when you enter the game menu you should see some fade effect and also in game. Until today's GIT you didn't see that, the screen stayed black for a while.
