Then insert some scaling after rcp, for example with a 0.5 factor. The current hack assumes that data is already clamped right after rcp, but I think this is wrong. According to the D3D8 docs the vertexshader knows the concept of INFTY. IMHO MUL is the problem. Or another possibility: The conversion from a 4-float vec to a RGBA value (oD0). In the case that oD0 contains NaN, what RGBA does this map to?
