The terminal output has many (thousands of) lines with: fixme:d3d_surface:surface_convert_format Cannot find a conversion function from format WINED3DFMT_A8R8G8B8 to WINED3DFMT_X8R8G8B8 My best guess is that this problem is somehow preventing anything from being drawn. I get the same errors when running in windowed mode (virtual desktop), and fullscreen. That is, a short period at the beginning of the sound, probably first sound buffer or the whole of the sound, is repeated over and over again. The System Monitor does not start (to kill the app) and the sound continues even after Ctrl-Alt-BkSp (forced logout). Reboot needed.
