It's called WordFlood 2.0. Not a popular software but quintessential for me. Anyways installed this software with Wine and installation went without any problem. But when I launch the application I get an error. The simple graphics modes where each particle is a circle work great, with perfect performance. The game requires no install and starts up instantly. The problem is that the higher graphics modes that use shaders do not work. I have attached a picture for an example. The fire effect is visible on top of a black screen. From previous experience I know that this caused when OE-Cake cannot recognize your graphics card, at least that's how it is caused in Windows on real hardware. I've played some pretty advanced games on WINE so I have a feeling this could be fixed somehow. An alternate failure mode that several users have reported is that the shader modes do work, but in the lower graphics modes each circle representing a particle is replaced by a square making it look like Minecraft. With and without the dlls and one on and/or the other dll not overriden. I have the lastest wine version 1.3, fresh install as of today. Loading a saved game while you are in-game results in a crash. Tested with the GOG version. The crash can be reproduced with the demo/tour version as well. The same problem in Wine 1.2.3/1.4.1/1.6.2/1.7.38. Steps to reproduce the problem with the demo version: Start the installed demo with tour.exe. Click on the highlighted <Tour>, <Skip all>, <Play> buttons. Click the button right next to <Proceed> in the lower right corner. Click <Save>...the game is saved. Now click <Restore> in the options menu and select the previously saved game. The game is loaded without errors but if you click <Proceed> the game crashes. The demo version doesn't allow to load a saved game from the title screen. However the audio associated with the videos is reproduced correctly with all builtin. To be able to play in game sound the game need these dlls setted to native:dsound,dmime,dmsynth,dmusic,dswave However when setting dsound as native the audio of the videos (as the intro video) is not played anymore (the video component of the video is still played perfectly). To experience this issue you need to set as native dsound.dll only. Reproduced the issue with nouveau/mesa 17.1.3 and nvidia binary drivers 381.22. Disabling anti-aliasing and lowering detail level to the minimum doesn't help. According to my testing the commit which caused the slowdown is commit 15d53761a5fbfc12fc5f9974c029dace00eab33d Author: Henri Verbeet <hverbeet(a)codeweavers.com> Date: Tue Jan 31 15:47:10 2017 +0100 wined3d: Do not pin system memory in wined3d_buffer_load_location(). Maybe a duplicate of bug #42588, although the symptoms are different. With the previous commit the game runs much smoothly. For comparison, in Wine 2.11 I'm getting only 4-5 fps when using nvidia 381.22. Before the regression Wine gave me 32-36 fps. Steps to reproduce the issue with the demo: 1. download and install the demo, install native d3dx9_33.dll before launching the game. 2. in the main menu start a new game, click <Next> on the character selection screen, press <Skip>. You are in a training chamber: run around in the room, rotate the camera using the right mouse button and observe how sluggish the game is. You can save the game here so you can reproduce the issue more easily the next time you enter the game.
