After .NET Framework 4.x installation, when manually triggering GAC update, some assemblies fail to install in pre .NET 4.0 (1.0 - 3.5) legacy GAC location because it's missing. The failure is not really critical though (has no effect on .NET 4.x apps). NOTE: This is not MSI regression, it was afaik always present. Had this one bitrotting on my disk for at least a year. It's not created by the runtime itself but somehow during .NET install process. An exception is thrown and the application basically locks up after canceling a print command from the application's help viewer. In bug #25873, Erich Hoover asked to be CCed on this new report. Steps to reproduce: 1. Start PAF5. 2. Select 'New' from the dialog (or the menu bar if you don't see a dialog). 3. Click on the yellow question mark on the right-hand end of the menu bar. This brings up the help viewer. 4. Click on 'Print'. 5. In the print dialog, click on 'Cancel'. 6. Back in the help viewer, click on a couple of chapter titles in the left-hand pane. 7. Observe that the help viewer and application have become unresponsive and that an exception has been printed to stdout/stderr. See screenshot. In the log the is a reason ~~~ 0030:fixme:d3d:wined3d_query_create Unhandled query type 0x16. ~~~ 0x16 == 22 = WINED3D_QUERY_TYPE_SO_OVERFLOW To concept proof I created a small hack with implementation for this type of query. And the application allows me to start benchmark. All other tests are running fine. Interestingly the very similar 3DMark05 benchmark is running completely error free. (This may be because the older version doesn't contain the same complex HDR PS 3.0 Shader programs.) Note, I have tested this at an 32bit and 64bit Wine prefix. The error output is: D3DXGetImageInfoFromFileInMemory failed: Invalid data (D3DXERR_INVALIDDATA) D3DXDisassembleShader failed: Ran out of memory (E_OUTOFMEMORY) The solution is to install the original 'd3dx9_28.dll' file (winetricks -q d3dx9_28). After that, everything is working as it should. But indexed vertex blending is not supported yet. I've implemented rather straightforward patch to do it which works for me, it is attached. Though I am far not familiar with wined3d development and not quite sure that my patch is complete and does not have any caveats. A potential caveat with this patch is the following. Besides using indexes in vertex shaders, a big enough number of supported vertex blend matrices is required to really support this Direct3D feature. It was 4 in 1.7.47, I changed to 128 using the same framework developed in 1.7.47. It may potentially fail on some graphic cards due to large number of uniforms in vertex shader generated.
