I couldn't revert the commit cleanly on current git. I verified the result of
the regression test with

1. git checkout afb2aa2512d4c5ffa7256ce5137bc2c142a5d065
(the problem does exist)

2. git checkout afb2aa2512d4c5ffa7256ce5137bc2c142a5d065^
(the game runs properly without the slowdown)
