You may give this patch a try, but I don't think this is the problem.
The patch has no visible effect on this bug. The game is still freezing after the loading bar is filled. What's needed to get the app working til the hang? Does it need some special version of ie?
All I did: 1. get the downloader 2. run the downloader in a new prefix (will download bfgclient and install it) 3. This shows an empty page (most likely html rendering problems)
