It has been said before, the issue is the game. The same problems appears on both Windows and Wine. You need to use a workaround, such as this one, http://forums.qhimm.com/index.php?topic=7248.0 in order to run the game on modern drivers/hardware. The link in that forum post does not work anymore. Google knows a few locations for ff8_launcher_v1.31.rar, e.g. http://pub.zoneofgames.ru/patches/
