Actually, upon further testing the FMVs only play normally in fullscreen mode.
When emulating a virtual desktop the window must be moved around in order for
the screen to update. This occurs in FMVs and in the main menu, but the screen
updates on its own in-game. I'm using Compiz version 0.8.2.
