Well, it works for me:). I did not patched wine at all - just had my wine updated to 1.1.10. I saved successfully couple of times in a row, whereas before it was completely impossible.
Make sure you thoroughly check this. In a large 1 vs 11 cpu game, saving at first may work if you save it at the very start, but then if you wait a few minutes until saving again, it starts consistently crashing again.
