So either have a backup editor or use x11 forwarding on the side or edit the file with a local editor and saving to a network location. 2 years though... I assume the delay is because dead key support is awkwardly integrated and would be a pain to tweak? Are dead keys really more beneficially to users than parens and other symbols over remote connections?
