http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=12302 --- Comment #12 from Athrun <samurai_no_densetsu(a)yahoo.es> 2008-04-11 07:46:14 --- Hmm... let me think... I remember a setup wich LOTRO was unplayable due 'lag', but it ended being related to poor filesystem performance (I think that also NCQ had some impact performance in that case). And was solved modifiying /etc/fstab this: /dev/sda1 /boot reiserfs defaults, notail 0 0 /dev/sda3 / ext3 defaults 0 0 /dev/sda5 /mnt/sda5 xfs defaults 0 2 /dev/sda6 /mnt/sda6 ext2 defaults 0 2 To this: /dev/sda1 /boot reiserfs defaults, notail 0 0 /dev/sda3 / ext3 rw,noatime, nodiratime 0 0 /dev/sda5 /mnt/sda5 xfs rw,noatime, nodiratime 0 2 /dev/sda6 /mnt/sda6 ext2 rw,noatime, nodiratime 0 2 Actually rw,noatime, nodiratime options are safe an deliver between 10%~50% IO performance boost as the filesystem don't write every time that writes/reads a file to update the last access time. It can appear insignificant, but mind on it, just every time a read or write is performed, atime writes again to hardisk, and harddisk (or flash drives) are the slowest part on modern PCs if we ignore optical media drives.
