[Bug 41670] Planetside 2: BattlEye service not starting

How do i begin debugging this?  I have classroom experience with C and quite a
bit of on the job with other languages, but i'm not sure where to go after
grabbing the source and looking at the fixmes in the commandline output.
Specifically, i don't know how to isolate the failure point.  Is there a
commonly used debug tool that would, say, point me to an infinite loop or bad
return that is causing battleye to hang?
