[Bug 31231] Borderlands installer crashes while trying to extract a cabinet file

I've figured out what causes this bug. It's caused by having more than one copy
of the install media mounted. Removing the extra copies makes the installer
work. Although vsh56vs from winetricks is necessary to actually see the EULA,
Install location, etc. pages.
