I guess this is a problem because of lack of DIB engine in current WINE (bug #421).
For me Heroes 4 can be playable only with >2 GHz CPU; this also depends on what resolution you are using.
Please state what CPU do you have and what resolution are you using in-game. Thank you.
Thanks for your reply. My CPU is Pentium-M 1.7 Ghz which is roughly equal to Pentium 4 2 Ghz, still the game is hardly playable. I also inquired about DBI, it really looks like this is the cause of problem. However, this "bug" was committed in 2002! This is really amazing, how I can play Heroes V in full 3D using Wine, but I can't play the previous 2D game.
