Although I did notice in the terminal in which I started the timidity I got
this:
ezekiel(a)alice:~$ timidity -iAD
ezekiel(a)alice:~$ TiMidity starting in ALSA server mode
Opening sequencer port: 128:0 128:1 128:2 128:3
/dev/dsp: Device or resource busy
Couldn't open dsp device (`d')
