ACK - possibly relevant data if you didn't pick up on things in the initial
post:

I am running on a 64-bit OS but I had to set WINEARCH=win32 and
WINEPREFIX=~/wine32 (the tilde is my own.  The actual path is absolute)

This was why I had installed the 32-bit dri-nouveau package.
