Installing directx9 is not necessary any longer.
I got CoD5 running with:
 - regedit sound.reg
   (sound.reg being this file:
    http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=18560)
 - patched the current git tree with this patch and
   compiled:
   http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=18559
 - copied the XAudio2_0.dll from a XP machine into the
   drive_c/windows/system32 directory.
