[Bug 47893] Unicode characters aren't being rendered correctly

All the characters used to display correctly, then somebody changed something a
while back and they all became corrupted. NEW entries are displayed correctly
(since that change) but the old ones are unlikely to ever be fixed, unless the
effect of that unknown change can be reversed.
