The slowdowns appear on all tested nvidia based macbooks (9400m), macbook pro (8800M/GT, 9600M/GT) and imac (9400, 8800GT). Observed on OSX 10.5.8 -> 10.6.3. Reverting this patch will triple the fps (from ~20 fps -> ~60fps) without causing any observable graphical problems. I'd also like to note that ATI based IMacs(4850) and macbooks(1600) don't exhibit the same slowdown from this patch.
