Sorry Rico, tried again today:
Ubuntu 8.10 32 bit
wine --version -> wine-1.1.13

Problem still exists:
fixme:d3d_shader:IWineD3DVertexShaderImpl_CompileShader Vertexshader 0x83c6638
recompiled more than 50 times
