[Bug 28000] World War One Gold hangs during the initial loading stage

Still present as of wine-1.5.9-267-g8f108a0.
Using Win98 compatibility mode makes it possible to load the game in a
reasonable time (<1 minute)
This may be similar to the problems reported in bug #29603 and bug #30787.
