I think earlier versions were withdrawn because of bugs. You should have 7.3. If you have an earlier version, try to get an upgrade somewhere. If I recall, they weren't out long and were buggy. I use Ubuntu's Hardy Heron, and I have all updates as of today. GCC 4.2.3-2 Before I compile from git, I run the following command: sudo apt-get build-dep wine wine-dev to get all dependencies. Then I still need the following: sudo apt-get install msttcorefonts xdg-utils I build wine using the following command: ./tools/wineinstall Then I do: sh winetricks fakeie6 then installed DNS7.3 from the disk. I did that today with a completely clean wine install. I did not tweak. Good luck.
