using a local http proxy (squid), I see that Kindle.exe does connect to the
Amazon.com server:

www.amazon.com:443 - HIER_DIRECT/184.24.124.204
www.amazon.com:443 - HIER_DIRECT/23.211.66.236
www.amazon.com:443 - HIER_DIRECT/96.17.76.102
