I am not saying my approach with the d3d9 file offers the best UX. I am
proposing a better UX through official settings in winecfg. Like this I could
prepare a suitable wrapper for the end user.

You also seem to misunderstand something with my current approach. The user
does not need to run winecfg each time they switch between the games. You set
it up once and you're done.
