I tried this again today on another computer running Ubuntu 8.10, Wine 1.1.14 with a much newer ATI graphics card (the exact model escapes me at the moment). The ATI FGLRX proprietary driver is installed and it's running 64-bit Ubuntu, but that doesn't seem to be causing any problems. The error message is nearly identical to the others.
