Ok, I just realised something really odd (which also explains my slow-downs). Somehow, two copies of Diablo III.exe get launched. As in, two distinct copies of the game.
This is a known bug in launcher: http://us.battle.net/d3/en/forum/topic/4254455412#12 I'll try your new patch later.
