As explained as a comment by HoNgO in the game page in AppDb (http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=version&iId=6719), this bug as an issue.
It worked for me using Ubuntu 10.10 and wine 1.2.2 May be it should help to solve (or close) this bug ?
Adding "DefaultDepth 16" to my xorg.conf file did indeed fix the problem.
