Running the installer from Wine's Add/Remove Programs, I'm still receiving the boot error and the same absence of details, but the noted the message at the command line:
$ 0154:err:virtual:virtual_setup_exception stack overflow 1476 bytes in thread 0154 addr 0x7bc54b85 stack 0x230a3c (0x230000-0x231000-0x330000)
