It's probably the fact that the previous version was wrapped in a function, but
I don't see why that would make a difference, and I can't reproduce this here.

Does this happen for other files using __ASM_GLOBAL_FUNC too or is it the only
one in the tree?

Please generate the asm output for txthost.c with gcc -S with and without the
patch and look for differences.
