The reported problem first appeared after Staging commit 9d59c4b (04/04/24):

Indeed if I compile Wine-Staging with '-W ntdll-WRITECOPY' then the problem
doesn't occur and the game can be started properly.
By the way, I don't have the environment variable set: STAGING_WRITECOPY=1.
