Tried the patch:
sudo make uninstall
patch -p1 < somepatch.diff
make
sudo make install

The line before 'starting debugger' (fixme:winhttp:request_set_option
WINHTTP_OPTION_SECURITY_FLAGS unimplemented (00003100)) vanished, but the rest
is the same (i.e 'starting debugger' still pops up without actual debugger
start, then process exits).
