I retrieved the latest (1.2-rc5-g71fb006) today using git and recompiled on
Fedora 13 (32 bit).  The heap error was gone and the program started correctly.

1.2-rc5 on Ubuntu 64 bit from the repositories still has the heap error and the
program crashes on startup.

I suspect this is what fixes it:
