[Bug 40906] Age of Empires 2 HD is no longer playable after the latest game patch

OK... I had been fighting this for a few days now, I woke up today, decided to
take a quick look at it before breakfast and the game worked.
I'm almost sure there was a game update. It's hard to tell as I was reverting
from patch43 to default and they never announce minor updates publicly.
