If you're getting a complaint about caps, are you sure your video card and/or driver is sufficient to play the game? Perhaps you clue us in to the hardware and driver you are using. Hardware is a good call. I compared my card against the required card from the developers website and mine is about a year older… I guess that is what caused the error. Is there a way to list a cards DirectX capabilities within wine (some diagnosis-tool maybe?).
Can you play in Windows? I do not have windows, so I cannot cross-check.
