Programs throw and catch their own exceptions all of the time. You can ignore certain types of exceptions with e.g. 'handle SIGSEGV noprint', although this may also prevent breaking on useful exceptions. That it fails subsequently may be a bug, although it may be a matter of timing or something similar.
