I also tried something completely different; I tried using winecfg to do DLL
overrides of various combinations of the networking DLLs.  Often overriding one
DLL would require additional overrides.

But after many hours of trying ws2_32 and others, I was never able to get past
the auth windows, much less server login.  So this seems like anothe3r dead
end.
