[Bug 51442] Socket connection is not established properly

The Firefox hang appears to be due to stack corruption, from passing a fd_set
that is larger than FD_SETSIZE. Since I don't see any such symptoms in the log
from comment 10, I'm going to assume that it's a different bug, and I've filed
bug 52302 accordingly.
