I'm using wine 1.7.50 (1.6. didn't work either), on 4GHz processor with 4GB memory with sharing graphics.
Are you by any chance using the winepulse audio driver (which is included in Ubuntu and Fedora packages)? I can only reproduce the problem with winepulse, not with winealsa.
