Do you have the usual "fallback to Randr 1.0" log message? Seems to be related
to this bug as a whole. I certainly get it while being on the proprietary
driver. Someone earlier mentioned that Randr 1.0 reverts to polling actual
hardware, hence the high xorg CPU usage.
