A week ago i added the fear demo to install (almost) just fine (http://appdb.winehq.org/appview.php?versionId=4209) and i just tried the quake 4 demo again and it installs just fine (it really runs "out of the box" as well). There must be something wrong with your distro/setup or whatever i don't know. (FYI my quake4 demo i got from gamershell.com.
