After digging more, I figured out what was wrong--the build of Wine that was in
the repository that I was using (wine.budgetdedicated.com gutsy) was not
compiled against libXi. Upon compiling it myself after installing the necessary
libraries, the tablet works beautifully under Wine in Photoshop 7. The SDK
example programs attached now also work.
