I like to run everything in a virtual desktop by default to avoid problems such as unsupported monitor mode in some full-screen games or to keep my desktop easily accessible, then for the occasional windowed program I prefer not to use virtual desktop. For a while I was using the 'wine explorer /desktop=,0x0 ./program.exe' workaround, now it doesn't work anymore.
