Can you see if a native comctl32 makes the problem go away?
Have you removed/renamed corresponding manifest file from c:\windows\winsxs? BTW Austin, please always specify this, as people won't ever get to this themselves.
To reply also Vitaliy Margolen post, I tried to run the executable in all the ways mentioned on FAQs, but I've always obtained the same error... Then please in the future always do it the right way when you submit bug reports.
