I also had problem with crackling audio in multiple apps with 1.2rc7 from PPA. I found all revisions during regression testing had working audio. I then tried a fresh build of 1.2rc7 from source tarball and it also worked. It seems to me that the problem lies with the Ubuntu package. Until that problem is fixed either build rc7 yourself or use the rc6 package for karmic as long as it is still there. Has anyone filed a bug with Ubuntu?
