As was noted by Ganni87, it appears to be far more likely to occur when my internet connection is slow. I am using 'wine-1.8-rc2 (Staging)' on Manjaro Linux with kernel version 4.2. I have tried both the 64-bit and 32-bit GW2 launcher, and they both exhibit the same behaviour. Most of the time it downloads ~2MB before crashing.
