Ok, I upgraded from 1.6.1 to 1.7.1.  Now the game crashes immediately upon
opening.  Ditto after a reboot.

Yes, I used to run this on my old Windows 2000 machine, and it didn't crash
like this.  Certainly you could play an entire game without it crashing.
